MORNING PICK - Volume 28

If your rhythm playing sounds a little stiff, the problem might be that your chords ring too long. Funk comes from short, bouncy chords with space between them. Music theory folks call it staccato. I just call it short.

This week I'm showing you how to loosen your grip so you get that percussive click, then squeeze the chord only when you want it to sound.

See you next Thursday for another Morning Pick,
Dustin

P.S. - The Essential Skills Course covers the three frameworks I've built my playing around — the Number System, the Landmark Pentatonic System, and the CAGED System.
